Medical Weight Loss

When it comes to losing weight, it feels like you’ve tried it all: the juice cleanses, the keto diet, the Whole30 diet, intermittent fasting. Still, the results you see with these efforts are lacking, or maybe nonexistent. While some people are fortunate enough to lose weight and maintain it with a well-balanced diet and exercise regimen, most men and women will find themselves coming up short to the body they want and quickly lose hope that they will ever achieve it.

At Body Symmetry MD, we take the guesswork out of weight loss by establishing an individualized, physician-guided medical weight loss plan that is tailored to your unique physiology and lifestyle. Whether you need accommodations for a dietary restriction, a hectic schedule or preexisting condition, our medical weight loss plans are so successful because they’re designed around you and your goals. If you are ready to lose weight and keep it off for good, we have the proven tools and support you need to start seeing results today.

Prescription hCG Diet

hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a protein-based hormone that is produced naturally in a woman’s body during the early stages of pregnancy. In fact, pregnancy tests are designed to detect the presence of hCG to determine whether a woman is pregnant. What does this hormone have to do with weight loss? The hCG diet was developed by the physician Albert Simeons in 1954 after publishing findings that suggested injections of hCG could aid in initial and continued weight loss.

The idea stemmed from the use of hCG to treat children suffering from Frohlich’s syndrome, which often is accompanied by symptoms of obesity and the slow development of reproductive organs. Simeons’ theory was that because hCG injections could be used to treat symptoms of obesity in Frohlich’s syndrome, it could also be used to treat obese individuals as a means to help them lose weight. What he found was that while hCG injections alone do not reduce weight, they do work as a powerful appetite suppressant. The hCG diet, as we know it today, combines an ultra-low caloric intake with the natural hunger-suppressing abilities of hCG injections to allow you to comfortably lose significant amounts of fat while eating fewer calories than you are used to.

The hCG diet is implemented in three different phases to optimize your total weight loss efforts. The three phases for the diet are as follows:

  • fat and high-calorie foods for two days to prepare the body for the low caloric intake to come.
  • Weight Loss Phase – After two days of food loading, the weight loss phase begins. Individuals will continue taking hCG but limit their daily caloric intake to 500-800 calories for three to six weeks. hCG meal plans typically suggest each meal should include one portion of lean protein, one vegetable, one fruit and a piece of bread. Butter, oils and sugars should be avoided during this time.
  • Maintenance Phase – After three to six weeks, individuals will stop taking hCG injections and gradually increase their daily caloric intake. Sugars and starches should still be avoided for an additional three weeks.

While restricting your daily caloric intake alone can help you lose weight, a common side effect of weight loss is often the unintended loss of muscle mass. The hCG diet also boasts muscle-retaining abilities by creating an anabolic state in the body, also known as the muscle-building state, to counteract the breakdown of your muscle mass. By reducing calories while in this anabolic state, hCG can dramatically speed up your fat loss process without feelings of hunger or losing any muscle mass.

Prescription Appetite Suppressants

As their name suggests, appetite suppressants are drugs designed to curb your hunger and reduce your food intake to aid in weight loss efforts. Phentermine, otherwise known by its brand name Adipex-P, is one of the most commonly prescribed weight-loss medications available today for those who are obese or who are at risk of developing conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes. As an amphetamine-like drug, phentermine helps you to lose weight by decreasing feelings of hunger or making you feel fuller for longer.

Scientists aren’t exactly sure how the medication works, but it is believed that the drug targets the neurochemical transmitters of your central nervous system. By stimulating the nervous system, the medication works to curtail food intake by tricking the brain into thinking it is not hungry or full. However, phentermine is not intended for long term use. It is typically only prescribed for a few weeks to complement a healthy diet and exercise regimen, after which its beneficial effects will lose their efficacy.

While phentermine can be highly effective when paired with diet and exercise, it isn’t for everyone. As an amphetamine that increases heart rate and blood pressure, individuals with heart disease, unmanaged high blood pressure and women who are currently pregnant should not take this medication. Common side effects can include heart palpitations, restlessness or insomnia, so it is crucial to discuss your medical history with our wellness consultants to determine if phentermine or Adipex-P is the right solution for you.

Lipotropic B12 Injections

Lipotropic injections, sometimes shortened to “lipo injections,” are a combination of ingredients administered via needle injections that aid in the metabolism of fat and boost feelings of overall wellness. Lipotropics are naturally-occurring substances in the body that affect how fat is broken down in the liver. Injectable lipotropic compounds are a combination of ingredients, such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids that help metabolize fat in the body. When combined with a nutritional diet and exercise regimen, lipotropic injections can work to accelerate the breakdown of fat and enhance your weight loss progress.

At Body Symmetry MD, our lipotropic injections are compounded with B12, often thought of as the energy vitamin, to help fight off fatigue and promote the production of protein and red blood cells. A supply of four lipotropic B12 injections are included with both our hCG diet plan and prescription appetite suppressant plans and are administered weekly to enhance your weight loss efforts. When combined with a calorie-restricted meal plan and exercise plan, lipotropic B12 injections can optimize the total amount of fat you lose.
